USS Rush DD 714 Gearing Class Destoryer Models

The Gearing Class Destroyer USS William R. Rush DD 714 was commissioned in 1945. Refit in 1951 with new technologies to a radar picket ship and then recommissioned into service in 1952 as a new and improved USS Rush DDR 714. She served proudly in the United States Navy until 1978.

USS Rush was then transferred to the navy of the Republic of Korea and became ROKS Kang Won DD 922 operating with the South Korean Navy until 1979.

The Gearing Class was essentially the same as the Sumner Class Destroyers with with an extra 14' of length to accommodate additional fuel and anti-aircraft armament.

The pre-eminent destroyer to emerge from World War II. Extending over 390' in length and at commissioning she carried twelve 40mm guns, twenty 20mm guns, five 21" twin turrets, six K-guns and two depth charge roller racks. She was a force with which to be reckoned.
